Curry School of Education

The Educational Technology Leaders courses and certificate represents a collaboration between the Administration and Supervision and the Instructional Technology programs. Both of which are in the Leadership, Foundations, and Policy department.

The primary instructor for the Educational Technology Leaders courses and certificate is Sara Dexter. Dr. Dexter is an assistant professor of technology leadership who joined the UVA faculty in fall 2004. Prior to her arrival she was an Assistant Professor for one year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and before that a Research Associate at the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI) at the University of Minnesota for six years. She has also been a junior high and high school science teacher as well as a district staff developer specializing in educational technology.

Throughout her career Dr. Dexter has focused research on the integration and implementation of educational technology in K12 schools. She has been the principal investigator for over $3.5M of federally funded grants, in addition to working on several other sponsored projects. These include the ETIPS cases and Ed-U-Tech, both PT3 grants, the ExemplaryTechnology-Supported-Schooling Case Studies Project, and Teaching, Learning and Computing 1998. From 2002-05 Dexter served as Chair of the AERA SIG: Computer and Internet Applications in Education; she is a member of the editorial review board of the Journal of Computing inTeacher Education.
