Spring 2009 Courses

Envisioning and Evaluating Technology Integration
Envision and evaluate successful technology integration and facilitate the shared development by all stakeholders of a vision for technology use in schools. Meets online. Register for EDLF 589 section 5 "Envision Evaluate Tech (online)".
School Technology Planning and Funding
Facilitate and maintain a cohesive process for developing, implementing, and monitoring a dynamic technology plan for achieving a technology vision. Integrate strategic plans and policies to align efforts and leverage resources for its implementation. Meets online. Register for EDLF 589 section 6 "Plan and Fund Ed Tech (online)".
Technology Legal, Ethical, and Safety Policies
Ensure equity of access to technology resources that will enable and empower all learners and educators; promote and enforce privacy, security, and environmentally safe use of technology. Meets online. Register for EDLF 589 section 7 "Ed Tech Policies (online)".
NOTE: If taking all three 1-credit classes and you are a non-degree seeking (i.e., professional development) student or a K-12 contract employee (whether professional development or enrolled as a degree-seeking student) enroll in the 3-credit option EDLF 589, section 8 "Tech Integrate and Implement 2" that combines the three spring 2009 courses, and allows you to enroll using the "K-12 Educator (reduced tuition) rate," which can only be applied to 1 course per semester.
2009 Summer Institute
(3 Credits, one week, July 20-24, 2009 from 8:30-5;30 pm, on-grounds at UVA)
Technology Leadership
The Summer Institute for Educational Technology Leaders is designed for principals, technology coordinators, and teacher team leaders who are responsible for the successful integration and implementation of educational technology in their schools. It offers participants an opportunity to examine best practices for leading technology efforts and to critically analyze the impact of a school’s culture, structures, and policies on technology utilization. Participating leaders will examine their own beliefs about instruction and the role of technology in schools and will develop an understanding of the leadership knowledge and skills necessary for effective technology integration and implementation. Attendance all five days of the institute and registration for graduate credit are required. The costs include a registration fee ($150 for five days of lunch, parking, and snacks) plus tuition for 3 graduate credits and a technology fee ($655 for in-state residents and $970 for out-of-state registrants). Enrollment is limited.

Facilitating and Supervising Technology Integration
Facilitate and supervise successful technology integration and identify, use, evaluate, and promote appropriate technologies to enhance and support standards-based curriculum leading to high levels of student achievement. Meets online from 8/27 - 9/24/09. Register for EDLF 589: "Facilitating Tech Int (online)".
Technology Support and Professional Development
Examine professional development and technology support systems that lead to high-quality teacher learning environments, that in turn support classroom and school uses of technology. Meets online from 10/1 - 10/29/09. Register for EDLF 589: "Tech Pd and Support (online)".
Data-Driven Decision Making
Use data to make decisions that improve instructional practices and student learning. Meets online from 11/5 - 12/9/09. Register for EDLF 589: "Datadriven Dec Making (online)".

Capstone Course
Examine emerging technologies and their potential uses in education. Engage in a school technology leadership project and present their findings through a multimedia presentation. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor and completion of 9 credits of Educational Technology Leaders coursework.
